However, on this visit, Waterfall #1 had all but dried up because of the recent dry spell. Waterfall #2 was also visibly weaker.
I used this opportunity to traverse the river, now tame when compared with its strength during my last visit.
Where is Sultan Falls?
To get to Sultan Falls I drove for about 30 minutes along the Imperial Road and made a left turn at the Pond Case roundabout. While driving west towards Warner, I met the large sign indicating that I had arrived.
The falls are located on family property and so there’s a nominal fee ($10 EC per person) for providing access to the site and for maintaining the area.
I found everyone to be very friendly and if they’re not tending to their farmlands, someone may show you the upper difficult waterfalls. Otherwise, you may need to hire a tour guide to show you to those not-so-easy to get to waterfalls.
On this second trip I wanted to capture more than I did the last time and these are what I came up with:
This first image is pretty straightforward. I captured it while standing on the main platform, looking at the waterfall.
I then climbed down, went around the big tree to the right of the cavern, and set up my equipment in a shallow pool facing the same waterfall in the image above.
For the next image I waded through the water to get to another section of the river. I attempted to climb up this stream, as I could see a waterfall up to the right-hand side of it. However the current was too strong and settled for taking this shot at its base:
For my final image of that day, I circled back to the shallow pool but instead climbed around and over to stand alongside the river. Here’s what I captured:
For the rest of the photo-trip we simply enjoyed nature… the fresh air, the raging river, the solitude.
I would have liked to explore further, but you definitely need guidance from someone who knows the area. One of the older family owners suggested if we visited during the tourist season, we could take advantage of an organized tour.
We will definitely consider that option for the future 🙂
